Cleveland Kong Split Double Header with Columbus Crimson Ahead of VLA Cup

Stellar performances from Legrair and Donorovich highlight a competitive day for the Academy Volleyball Cleveland event.

In a tightly contested double header hosted by Academy Volleyball Cleveland the Cleveland Kong split the games with the Columbus Crimson. Each team showcased their skills and depth, with standout performances from Kong's Johnnie Legrair and Jason Donorovich.

In the first game, the Kong fell to the Crimson 3-0. Despite the loss, Johnnie Legrair emerged as the player of the game with seven kills, a .308 hitting efficiency, and three digs. As one of Kong's promising pin hitters, Legrair is no stranger to competition. A product of Kent State University's men's club volleyball team, he boasts an extensive coaching career at the NCAA level for schools such as Malone University, Hiram College, and Walsh University. Notably, Legrair also had a 15-year career in track & field, participating in long jump, 110-meter hurdles, and short sprints.

The Kong roared back in the second game, besting the Crimson in a thrilling 3-2 victory. Middle hitter Jason Donorovich led the charge as the player of the game with an impressive 12 kills, a .706 hitting efficiency, and four blocks. Donorovich's experience as a two-time 1st team All-EIVA player and co-captain for Penn State in 2020 adds to the Kong's strong roster. Currently serving as the Baldwin Wallace University Men's Volleyball Assistant Coach, he previously held positions at NC State Women's Volleyball and Baldwin Wallace Men's Volleyball.

With the VLA Cup on the horizon, the Kong's momentum is building. Libero Sean Martin is optimistic about their chances, stating, "We've set a standard in the practice gym and our attitude is: we can compete with anybody in this league." The Kong will begin play at the VLA Cup on Friday, with matches available for streaming on the VLA YouTube Channel.
