Kong Announce East Cup Roster

Cleveland Kong, the reigning 2022 VLA East Cup champions, have officially announced their roster for the upcoming East Cup. As they set their sights on defending their title this weekend, the team will be relying on a mix of experienced players and fresh talent to maintain their winning streak.

The roster includes standout players Sean Martin, Pete Hock, Adam Roche, and newcomer Alex McCune. Martin and Hock were key members of the Ohio State team that secured the NCAA Division I title back in 2011, while Roche played at Saint Francis University before spending six seasons as the head coach for the Thiel College Men's volleyball team.

Sean Martin expressed his enthusiasm for the team's chemistry, saying, "I’m really excited about the group we’ll have in Albany. A lot of us have known each other and played together in some capacity for over a decade now. There’s just a level of comfort and chemistry we have that’s tough to match."

A notable addition to the Kong's roster is Alex McCune, who will be participating in his first VLA Cup event. McCune is an accomplished athlete, having earned six Division I All-American Decathlete titles and holding both American and Collegiate records in the Heptathlon pole vault with an impressive 5.45 meters (17'10.5"). He also holds school records in both Heptathlon and Decathlon at The University of Akron.

“I’m looking forward to spending the weekend with the team” McCune added. “From the trip to New York, time spent in the hotel, and time playing on the court, it’s a nice thing to look forward to after not having experienced it since my college days as an athlete. Some of my best memories come from away competitions and I am hoping to add some more.”

As the Cleveland Kong gears up to defend their VLA East Cup title, the combination of seasoned players and exceptional new talent promises an exciting performance this weekend in Albany.
